Downtime / Important: Custom Domain Users

Posted by borg on February 26th, 2010

We will be changing our network IPs shortly (within the next 24 hours). This change will result in some downtime (less than 1 hour) for most users.

However, forum owners who use a custom domain (mydomain.com) for their forums may experience longer downtimes.  To reduce the downtime, lower the TTL on your DNS service to a low number (like 600) for the entries that point to this service. After the downtime has occurred, please check back here to confirm that the changes have taken place. Remove all entires containing “38.99.249.226″ with the new IP and increase the TTL to its normal levels. The new IP will be listed here shortly.

Sorry for the inconvenience. if you have questions or issues, please visit our support forums.

-Updated-

Things should be back up now. For those with a custom domain, please change entries that contain 38.99.249.226 to 216.18.214.242

-More Info-

Some users are having issues accessing our service. It is due to the user’s ISP not having the updated information. The information below might help.

The issue will get resolved once the user’s internet provider gets updated with the new information. It usually takes 24-48 hours in worst case scenarios (most took about a few hours). About 12 hours has elapsed since the update. Ask them to check every couple of hours or tomorrow.

If they are really impatient, tell them to use opendns.com . It will give them access immediately.

Again, we apologize for the issue…

Tom wrote up a quick tutorial on limiting the PM spam. it may help while we deal with the situation.

Apologies - Downtime

Posted by borg on January 18th, 2010

Last night there was an issue at the datacenter that caused all the servers the reboot. This reboot caused one of the servers to boot incorrectly and resulted in downtime that lasted several hours.  We deeply apologize for the downtime that occurred and the inconvenience it caused to  our users.

Thanks for another year

Posted by Tom on January 1st, 2010

First off, season’s greetings and a happy new year. 2009 has been a huge year for iPBFree and I wanted to quickly thank everyone involved.
iPBFree is all about the users – that’s why it exists, why it’s free, and why it’s fun. We’ve always been very lucky to have some users who devote time and effort to contribute peer support and resources, and make our Community Forums enjoyable. I feel we don’t thank them enough, so if that’s you – thank you, your assistance is very much appreciated.

My other big thanks goes to the iPBFree staff team. Not only are they competent, helpful and polite, but they’re funny, interesting and supportive and are also in need of a public display of gratitude. iPBFree staff work in a voluntary capacity and when you need help with anything on your forum, or when I want to discuss rock music, they’re there. Thanks to all of them.

Finally, thanks to you, whoever you are, for using iPBFree and giving it a reason to be here. If it weren’t for everyday users like you, there would be no need for me and the rest of the team, so cheers.

That’s it then, I just wanted to say thanks. Bring on 2010!
