Changing your 'Favicon'

Allright,

So what is a favicon I hear you ask?

A favicon is the little icon that appears in front of your url in your browser.

For IPBfree, default is the following:

I figured out how to change this and make it work for all your pages.

Here's how:

Go into your admin CP ->Skins & Templates -> Board Wrappers -> Edit your current wrapper.

Then, under <html><head><title><% TITLE %></title>

You put the following code in ''Additional Metatags''

Code:

<link rel=shortcut icon type=image/x-icon href=icon url/> <link rel=icon type=image/png href=icon url />

Change the text in red with the url to your icon. Make sure the image is .ICO (you can find several image converters with a search in google)

For me it works like a charm - check for preview here

Just to make it easier:

1. Make a image 16x16 or 32x32
2. Go to http://www.chami.com/html-kit/services/favicon/ and convert your image to ico.
3. Download the favicon provided and extract
4. Upload the animated favicon or non-animated favicon to a image host. I most recommend http://www.imagehost.org/
5. With the hotlink put it in the code gee has included in the post.

Easy!

Or the shortest method you can come up with:

1. Upload image to iconj.com (which provides you with the code you need)
2. Add code to JavaScript section of your board wrappers.

.ico extensions are only required for viewing Favicon in Internet Explorer. .png, .gif, .jpg, etc. all work in other browsers.

Also, technically

isn't iPBFree's favicon.

We'll need link to your board or the full code you're using for the favicon, or both.

Upload the image to somewhere like tinypic.com which provices a direct link to the image rather than to a download page.
