Dear valued users,
We would like to announce the promotion of:
Gordie and WindWalker
They are now iPBFree Moderators.
Welcome to the team!
We are currently working on the servers to fix some stability issues. You may see issues such as intermittent connections and downtime.
There will be some bug fixes regarding:
1) Arcades - Issue with scores not submitting
2) User/Custom Domains not correctly registering in the system
3) New Forum/Board Registration changes (this is not the member registration for user forums)
I will be expecting some glitches when a few things are switched over. There will be no need to post issues on the support boards until after the fixes have been deployed.
These fixes will be resolved by Saturday evening.
I will be catching up on some much needed maintenance this week. I will be expecting some glitches when a few things are switched over. The maintenance periods will occur 4-7AM PST. I will post a site wide message during operations. If you would like to know what time this will occur in your timezone, please visit this website.

Please change “From Time Zone:†to “America/Los_Angeles†when using the timezone converter.
There have been few network issues this week. IPBFree’s network provider have been upgrading the datacenter connectivity. The network provider has not given much details of when these downtime periods will occur.
10/19/2007 – 12AM PST / 2-3 hours (adding additional hardware – 70% of routing was affected)
10/22/2007 – 3PM PST / 15-20 minutes (fiber swaps – 85% of routing was affected)
I am deeply sorry for my absence. It seems I had a run of bad luck these past few months. When one problem is solved, another one surfaces. I apologize to everyone, especially the dedicated staff and members that have been keeping the morale high.
After a massive power surge from a thunderstorm (I think that’s what is was? no other explanation), a few of the casualties were my home server and my notebook. Over the past few weeks I have been using an old stashed away pII 233 Mhz w/32MB of RAM (NEC Ready 9738) that did not have an operating system. Luckly, linux came to the rescue (sort of anyway). Although, the machine was not capable of supporting a “windows” like interface, I was at least able to access the net with internet using the 33.6KBps modem….slow but still works. I was using a command-line interface similar to MS-DOS….definitely not fun :(. I wasn’t able to post or communicate, however I was able to download web pages and read the source code to see what was going on. Now, I know this sounds completely hopeless but I was able to still login and administer the iPBFree servers to some degree.
Anyhow, I just got a new Dell yesterday. I am still waiting on my personal server, it should be here this week. I am currently reloading the operating system back to windows XP because Vista is horrendously quirky. Those mac commercials are true…those â€Windows needs your permission to continue†dialogs are really annoying and a lot of programs don’t work properly. You can go to this site if you want to stop those dialogs, http://www.tweak-uac.com/. Can’t really help on the programs that don’t work (the program computability thing in the program properties does not work all the time). If you are power user, don’t use it. I will be back on the forums later this evening (it is currently 7AM, so about 12 hours from now) after I reload the backups.
Again, I am sorry for inconvenience and trouble I have caused members in my absence. If you have outstanding member issues, please bump the post so that I know the issue still has interest in being solved.
Note: There are several blog posts that will follow that I have not posted yet. I will post each every 6-12 hours so that people will have time to read and digest the information.
Dear iPBFree users,
Recently there have been some virus problems on the forums. Everything is now under control. The malicious script has been removed from all forums. If there are any problems in the future be sure to contact a staff member as soon as possible instead of trying to calm everyone down.
As I said before, I’m terribly sorry about the inactivity. I’m still in high school and am on my senior year. We care about our members and we provide the best support we can. Vipul has lots of things to do and he works a lot. The other staff are also young and are still in school. Missy has kids and also has things to do. I will try to keep you guys informed about what’s happening. About the server downtime, I believe it was a DOS attack from a certain someone but I’m still not sure.

Don’t think that the staff is gone because we’re not. I promise to try and help more due to inactivity on the support forums. I’m sure everything will run smoothly once Vipul returns and all of us are doing well on school.
I’m announcing my resignation from staff today, August 13th, 2007.
That’s right, I’m quitting. It’s nothing personal, and I’ve had a good run, but these days I’m just lacking the original excitement and dedication. Other than that, I’ve got more going on in real life that I must tend to at this time. Believe me, if there was any way I could stay and keep everything in order on both ends, I would. But as of late I’ve just been too inactive and not getting much done.
I don’t know what really happened between Feb and now, but I believe now is the time to take my leave.
To the members: You guys have been great, active, loyal, and on and on. iPBFree would be nowhere without you, and with you right now it’s quickly becoming the best of the best. I’m happy to see it too. As the forums advanced, so have our members. You guys love to help each other out with no incentive or likewise, and I love that. You’re all great.
To the staff: From the beginning, staff have remained solid, professional, and perfectly in order. You, my friends, are innovative every step of the way and even though we may not get along all the time, I love ya guys.
Maybe I’ll come back some day… Never know. But for now, it’s goodbye. Best of luck to the service, the staff, and everyone else here.
All boards over 1 month old won’t have the new alpha skin which can be previewed at http://alpha.ipbfree.com all new boards will have this installed by default.
To install this new skin i’ve made up a video tutorial

If you can’t view the text right click on the tutorial and select zoom in.
Best Regards,
