If you’ve noticed that your board’s copyright still says that you’re running Invision Power Board 1.3, it’s because you are and we are.
Many have asked about their boards not being updated, when in reality they have. We are running IPB 1.3 with modifications to make it better and easier to use for everyone. We’re adding features to it like crazy and have our own numbering which is separate from IPB.
The original version of IPB 1.3 didn’t have the Arcade, Shoutbox and the rest of the mods in the mod installer, nor the hacker system and trashcam or the ACP restriction feature found under users and groups. We proud our selves on the mods on your board.
Currently, the version of iPBFree (not IPB) that we’re running is 2.1. Our next version, which is set for a May/June release date, will be called 2.2 (Code Named Phalanx), but it is not a higher version of IPB. It is, yet again, IPB 1.3 with modifications to make it have more functionality.
The reason we can’t offer higher than IPB 1.3 is due to the cost. We would end up paying $149 per board. Factor in a hundred boards a day and that’s $10,000 a day for a free service. It would be impossible for us to pay, and the service would fail.
Any boards that are a higher version of IPB (ex. 2.2) or are running a different software (vBulletin) are official boards. Included are the iPBFree Mod Center (otherwise known as Source) and this forum.
To recap:
Your board will never go beyond IPB 1.3. Your board is, however, a heavily modified IPB 1.3 with a lot more features.
We can not offer higher versions due to licensing issues, which would cost a large fortune.
Thank-you for reading,
The Team at iPBFree.

So can you upgrade army system 1.6 to 2.1 without harming their presence in IPBfree forums

No, Sorry we can’t because 2.1 is for IPB 2.1 and we are running IPB version 1.3

Also Kieron, people were saying that they prefer not having copyright to iPBFree on their forums. I will speak to Vipul.
